US Court Decision Threatens Trump Tariff Agenda as Australia Weighs Trade Strategy
A US court decision has dealt a significant blow to President Donald Trump's tariff agenda, prompting his administration to vow alternative implementation methods while Australia reassesses its trade negotiation strategy with Washington.
The court ruling has created fresh uncertainty around Trump's signature economic policy, with the administration pledging to pursue tariffs through different legal avenues despite the judicial setback. Trump's team emphasized the tariffs would remain in place regardless of court challenges.
"The tariffs remain in place," Trump said in response to the ruling. "The court told us, they didn't all but tell us, they told us, go do it another way, so you can assume that even if we lose, we will do it another way."
Former Australian Ambassador to the United States Arthur Sinodinos told Sky News Australia the decision adds "even further uncertainty around the government's tariff policy" and could face Supreme Court litigation.
