📰 Rising Tide climate protesters confront Dutton at XXXX Brewery
Rising Tide protestors today challenged Opposition Leader Peter Dutton at Brisbane's XXXX Brewery as he left his campaign launch brandishing a banner saying "NO NEW NUCLEAR OR GAS".
Rising Tide protester Natalie Lindner confronted the Coalition leader unfurling the banner and asking Mr Dutton “Nuclear and gas will drive up energy bills. Why are you lying to the Australian people.”
This is the fifth bird-dogging protest in the last fortnight that Rising Tide has made, after disrupting Angus Taylor’s press conference, Peter Dutton’s Lowy Institute speech, Jim Chalmers’ pre-budget speech, and the Liberal Party fundraiser.
“The Coalition’s scheme to force nuclear into Australia’s energy grid is going to cost $600 billion to the taxpayer, add up to $1,200 to people’s energy bills, and produce 1.6 billion tonnes of climate pollution by 2050,” said Rising Tide activist Natalie from Brisbane
“Dutton’s nuclear scheme will actively worsen the cost of living and climate crisis.”
“We have just seen with ex tropical cyclone Alfred what the climate crisis is already doing to Australian communities. We cannot afford more distraction and delay with ridiculous energy policies like nuclear.”
“Dutton himself knows it’s an unpopular policy, that’s why he and the party are doing their best not to talk about it. Even Liberal Party members are campaigning against their own party now, because they see how bad of an idea it is.”
