Mining Sector Vital to Australia's Future, Dutton Declares in Passionate Address
PM Condemns Rising Political Violence Amid Alleged Dutton Terror Plot
Peter Dutton has delivered a powerful endorsement of Australia's mining industry during a visit to Western Australia, calling it the backbone of the nation's economy and promising stronger support under a Coalition government.
"We only survive, we're only able to fund our schools and to build roads and to provide support to hospitals and to frontline emergency service workers because of the mining sector here in WA," Dutton declared during his address at PROC facilities.
The Opposition Leader met with industry veterans and young engineers during his tour, emphasizing the critical role mining plays in Australia's economic prosperity. Dutton contrasted his approach with what he characterized as the current government's neglect of the sector.
Dutton highlighted concerning trends in capital investment flowing overseas rather than into Australian mining operations. "At the moment, capital is leaving our shores. And it's going to other parts of the world, including Africa and North America and Asia," he noted, pledging to reverse this trend if elected.
"Our announcements today, I think, send a very clear message that the Coalition will be the best friend that WA has ever had," Dutton stated, directly challenging the current administration's approach to resource development.
The mining sector visit formed part of Dutton's broader economic pitch to voters, which includes promises of fuel excise reduction and opposition to what he described as "Labor-Green" policies that would harm resource industries.
"As we come up to this election, there's a sliding doors moment for our country. Australians can't afford three more years of this Labor government," Dutton warned, framing the upcoming election as a critical juncture for the nation's economic direction.
Dutton also fielded questions on national security, including the AUKUS submarine deal, expressing "huge concerns about AUKUS under Anthony Albanese" while defending the importance of the agreement for Australia's defense capabilities.
When challenged about campaign dynamics, Dutton acknowledged many Australians are currently focused on cost-of-living pressures rather than election politics. "Most Australians are just working out around their kitchen table tonight, how the hell am I going to pay the electricity bill?" he said.
The Opposition Leader concluded his remarks by paying tribute to mining sector workers who "work away from their families for extended periods, some in difficult working environments" and pledging continued support for an industry he described as essential to Australia's future prosperity.
