Here’s what else you need to know to get going and get on with your day.

1️⃣ Liberal Party to Announce Climate Policy Following Extended Deliberations

The Liberal Party will formally announce its energy and emissions reduction policy at midday Thursday following an extended party room meeting Wednesday that Shadow Energy Minister Dan Tehan characterized as “robust and rigorous” but which yielded no immediate public resolution on the party’s climate stance.

Tehan addressed media following the party room meeting, confirming that he would prepare a submission for Shadow Ministry consideration Thursday morning before Opposition Leader Sussan Ley and himself would “formally announce our policy” to the public.

2️⃣ Australia and Indonesia Conclude Major Bilateral Security Treaty Negotiations

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced Wednesday the substantive conclusion of negotiations on a comprehensive bilateral security treaty, marking what Albanese characterized as a “watershed moment” and “new era” in the Australia-Indonesia relationship.

The announcement, made at the Royal Australian Naval Base in Sydney during President Prabowo’s first state visit to Australia since taking office in October 2024, outlines a framework for enhanced defense and security cooperation between Australia and Southeast Asia’s largest nation.

3️⃣ Food Delivery Platform Menulog to Cease Australian Operations After 20 Years

Food delivery platform Menulog will cease operations in Australia after nearly two decades, parent company Just Eat Takeaway.com announced Wednesday, citing “challenging circumstances” as the company shifts focus to accelerating growth in other international markets.

The Amsterdam-based company confirmed Menulog will stop accepting orders at midnight on November 26, 2025, giving customers a two-week transition period to redeem unused vouchers and credits. Founded in Sydney in 2006, Menulog was Australia’s first homegrown food delivery platform and once commanded approximately 80% of the market before facing intensified competition from global rivals.

4️⃣ High Court Upholds Commonwealth Termination of Russian Embassy Lease on National Security Grounds

The High Court of Australia unanimously ruled Wednesday that the Commonwealth validly terminated the Russian Federation’s 99-year lease on land near Parliament House on national security grounds, establishing that the government must pay compensation but possessed constitutional authority to end the diplomatic lease.

The decision, delivered in Government of the Russian Federation v Commonwealth of Australia [2025] HCA 44, resolved a legal challenge to the Home Affairs Act 2023 (Cth), which Parliament passed in a single day on June 15, 2023, following Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s announcement that the government had “received very clear security advice as to the risk presented by a new Russian presence so close to Parliament House.”

5️⃣ Victoria Introduces “Adult Time for Violent Crime” Legislation, Moving Youth Offenders to Adult Courts

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan announced Wednesday the state will introduce legislation before year’s end to prosecute children aged 14 and older who commit specified violent offenses in adult county courts rather than children’s courts, dramatically increasing both the likelihood of incarceration and maximum available sentences.

The policy, branded “adult time for violent crime,” represents Victoria’s adoption of Queensland’s controversial youth justice approach and marks a significant shift in the state’s treatment of juvenile offenders convicted of serious violent crimes.
