The Australian government should impose sanctions on "Israeli officials who have called for the denial of aid, and military and civil servants denying essential food and materials to civilians in Gaza," according to a new statement issued by the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) regarding the Gaza conflict.
Concerning student debt, the Greens have stepped up their efforts to implement comprehensive loan reforms that would do away with the practice of Hecs/Help rising in line with inflation.

Musk's Platform X Faces Backlash Over Non-Compliance with Australian Order
After the eSafety commissioner filed an urgent court case on Monday evening seeking an injunction, the Australian federal court ordered Elon Musk's X to hide posts containing videos of a Sydney church stabbing last week from users worldwide.
On Tuesday last week, eSafety commissioner Julie Inman Grant ordered X and Meta to remove “gratuitous or offensive violence with a high degree of impact or detail” within 24 hours or face fines. [Read more ]

Chalmers Confirms Inflation Targeting Amid Global Uncertainty
If the federal government can find room in the next budget for it, cost-of-living assistance along with clearly marked tax relief is still planned.
According to Treasurer Jim Chalmers, the centrepiece of his government's financial support plan will be the tax relief, which is scheduled to take effect in the middle of this year.
"And if we can afford to do a little more than that, then those decisions will be taken in the next week or two," Dr Chalmers told reporters in Canberra on Monday. [Read more ]

Perth Retains Title as Most Affordable Capital City: PropTrack Report
A recent report that shows where buyers can find some of the cheapest homes in each city and region has revealed the most affordable housing pockets across the nation.
According to the latest PropTrack Affordability Hotspots report, Perth is still the most affordable capital city despite price increases over the past year. Kwinana, which is located in the southern part of the city, is ranked as the most affordable capital city region nationwide.

Fired Google Workers Protested Cloud Contract with Israeli Government
Shortly after staging sit-ins at offices across the country, Google fired the 28 workers who had protested against the Alphabet division's $1.2 billion cloud-computing contract with the Israeli government.
On Tuesday, there were demonstrations at offices in Sunnyvale, California, New York City, Seattle, and other places. Thomas Kurian, the CEO of Google Cloud, was the target of the Sunnyvale group, who also livestreamed the sit-in on the Twitch channel "notech4apartheid."
According to what was said on the stream, employees from New York were taken into custody after they sat down in an office common area and unfurled a banner that said, "No Tech for Genocide." [ Read more ]

As a result, firefighters now face a higher likelihood of being injured (or worse still, death) from tree strikes, smoke inhalation, heat-related illness, burns, burnovers, flame, entrapment, chainsaw mishaps, road and aviation accidents, engines fumes, and exposure to harmful fire retardant chemicals. Australia's running boom hits the Great Ocean Road
Returning this Saturday, May 18, through Sunday, May 19, the Great Ocean Road Running Festival will feature nine distances ranging from 1.5 km to 60 km, including an ultra marathon and picturesque trail runs through one of Australia's most famous areas.
Australia's most beautiful marathon event, which takes place in the midst of a global running boom, invites both novice and seasoned runners to switch from city tracks to coastal roads with direct access to the Great Ocean Road this autumn. The half-marathon and full-marathon competitions will debut Brooks Pacers, who are prepared to assist participants in surpassing their own personal records.
