Coalition Still Divided on Net Zero Target as Business Demands Policy Certainty
The Coalition remains internally divided on its net zero emissions position, with Liberal Senator Jonathan Duniam acknowledging Tuesday that the party needs to "come together in one place and have a good, long, hard conversation" about climate policy.
Speaking on Sky News Australia's First Edition, Duniam said the party will establish a clear position before the next election but defended the ongoing internal debate as a sign of strength rather than weakness.
"We will absolutely have a position on this," Duniam said. "I think the strength of the coalition is in fact the reality around us being able to have those different views and come to an agreement."
The admission comes as business groups increasingly demand policy certainty on climate targets, with Labor's Daniel Mulino arguing that investment uncertainty hurts long-term economic planning.
"If the opposition still can't get a solid position on whether they even support net zero, that's not going to support the investment in long-term projects at all," Mulino said during the televised panel discussion.
