Coalition Set to Reunite After Liberal Party Room Backs Nationals' Policy Demands
The Liberal Party room agreed in principle Friday to four key policy demands from the Nationals, clearing the path for the coalition to reunite after a dramatic week-long split that threw the opposition into chaos.
Nationals MP Michael McCormack confirmed the breakthrough during a television interview, saying he had worked "very hard this week to get them back together to broker a peace deal."
"By the time we get back to Parliament, come July 22, we need to be reunited, back together," McCormack told ABC's Afternoon Briefing.
The reunion comes after the Nationals voted Tuesday to split from their Liberal partners over disagreements stemming from a meeting between leaders David Littleproud and Susan Ley in Albury last Thursday.
