Former House Speaker Andrew Wallace says the Liberal-National Coalition's communication failures and delayed policy announcements contributed significantly to Labor's decisive victory, which delivered Prime Minister Anthony Albanese 94 House of Representatives seats.
Wallace, who retained his Queensland seat of Fisher, made the comments during a Sky News interview Tuesday while conducting a post-election tour of 20 towns across his electorate on the Sunshine Coast.
"We made a lot of mistakes during the campaign," Wallace told Sky News from Mooloola. "Poor communication is a pretty consistent one that we need to work on."
The Liberal frontbencher said constituents repeatedly told him they "just didn't understand what our policies were" and criticized the Coalition for announcing policies too late in the campaign cycle.
Wallace identified nuclear energy as a particular challenge for the Coalition, saying community opinion remains divided despite the policy being a centerpiece of the party's energy platform.
