President Donald Trump said Monday he supports releasing government files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, reversing his earlier opposition ahead of an expected House vote this week. In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump told Republican lawmakers to vote for the release, stating “we have nothing to hide” and dismissing the controversy as a “Democrat hoax.

The reversal comes days after Trump ordered Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Democrats with ties to Epstein, a move Republican Rep. Thomas Massie characterized on ABC’s “This Week” as a potential “smokescreen” to delay disclosure. The bipartisan push to release the documents, led by Massie and Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna, has divided Trump’s typically loyal Republican base, with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene publicly breaking with the president to demand full transparency. Trump insisted the House Oversight Committee can access whatever materials they are “legally entitled to,” while urging his party to refocus on economic issues rather than what he termed the Epstein “trap.”
