The Liberal Party reached near-consensus on climate and energy principles during a party room meeting Tuesday but delayed announcing its formal policy until Wednesday, with Shadow Energy Minister Dan Tehan saying he must finalize a submission overnight based on colleagues’ contributions.

Tehan said the party agreed on two foundation principles: prioritizing energy affordability and reliability, and demonstrating seriousness about emissions reduction. He will present the submission to the Shadow Ministry at 9 a.m. Wednesday before announcing the policy around midday with Shadow Environment Minister Susan. The decision comes after the Nationals abandoned net zero commitments earlier this year, creating pressure for the Liberals to clarify their position ahead of federal elections.
