British social media personality John Fisher, known online as “Big John,” is being deported from Australia after immigration officials determined he violated the terms of his tourist visa by planning commercial activities during his visit. The 52-year-old influencer was detained by Australian Border Force for four hours Wednesday before being held in a Perth hotel, where he spent his birthday awaiting deportation. Fisher had entered the country legally but scheduled multiple paid appearances, including meet-and-greets at Perth venues and an event at Wentworth Park in Sydney.

Immigration officials informed Fisher that his tourist visa prohibited him from working or allowing third parties to profit from his presence in Australia. Border Force presented Fisher with documentation of events he had publicly advertised on social media. “The lady then said, ‘Your visa doesn’t allow other people to profit from your work’, referencing the companies I was working for,” Fisher told UK publication Metro, adding that he was unaware of the restriction. Despite calling the experience a “bad taste in my mouth” and saying he was “treated like a criminal,” Fisher, who has nearly 1 million combined followers across TikTok and Instagram, stated he still loves Australia and plans to return in the future.
