Australia’s Prime Minister on Monday condemned an “act of pure evil” after a father and son killed 15 people in a targeted, anti-Semitic terror attack at Bondi Beach during a Hanukkah celebration. Calling for national unity, the Prime Minister said all Australians stand with the Jewish community and vowed to “eradicate” the “scourge” of anti-Semitism, while confirming flags would fly at half-mast nationwide. The attack, which also left one of the two perpetrators dead and 42 people hospitalized, was carried out by a licensed firearm owner, prompting the government to consider legislative reform.

State and federal leaders condemned the violence as an act of anti-Semitism, with the Prime Minister describing it as “pure evil”. Police have launched “Operation Shelter” to increase security around Jewish community sites across the state.
