Prime Minister Anthony Albanese labeled Sunday’s mass shooting at a Bondi Beach Hanukkah celebration an “act of evil anti-Semitism” after convening the National Security Committee in urgent session. The attack killed 12 people as families marked the holiday’s first night, prompting Albanese to pledge national unity and full resources against the threat.
Albanese spoke alongside Australian Federal Police Acting Deputy Commissioner Nigel Ryan and ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess following the committee meeting. He described the violence at Archer Park near Bondi Pavilion as terrorism striking “the heart of our nation,” with one gunman dead and another hospitalized. “An attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on every Australian,” Albanese said.
