Ten people have been arrested as pro-Palestine protesters attempted to blockade a government-sponsored weapons expo at Sydney’s International Convention Centre on Tuesday morning, with police deploying pepper spray and mounted officers to contain the demonstration. NSW Police confirmed the operation remains ongoing and warned that anyone who breaches the peace will face arrest as the three-day Indo Pacific International Maritime Exposition continues at Darling Harbour.

The protesters, organized by the Palestine Action Group, gathered at 6:30 a.m. before marching to the ICC, where they were met by a heavy police presence and metal barricades. Palestine Action Group organizer Josh Lees accused police of attacking peaceful protesters and directly blamed NSW Premier Chris Minns, whose government sponsored the event through Investment NSW. The expo brings together major weapons manufacturers including BAE Systems, corporate sponsors like KPMG, universities and the Royal Australian Navy.

The protest follows last week’s City of Sydney vote condemning the event, with Greens Councillor Matthew Thompson stating that major stakeholders have “direct connections to conflicts — enjoying staggering profits from misery and suffering from conflict and war.” Police emphasized that “the safety and security of delegates at the venue and the wider community is paramount” and said they will work with protesters to ensure minimal community impact while maintaining a continued presence throughout the expo’s remaining days.
