AUSTRALIA'S EMPLOYMENT BOOM: WOMEN AND MID-CAREER PROFESSIONALS LEAD APRIL JOB SURGE
Labor Market Defies Global Trends as Female Workers Drive Record Growth and Participation Rates Climb
Australia's labor market demonstrated remarkable resilience in April 2025, with employment surging by 89,000 positions while maintaining a steady unemployment rate of 4.1 percent, according to data released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
The figures reveal a transformative shift in workforce demographics, with women and mid-career professionals emerging as the primary drivers of growth.
The employment surge was notably gender-imbalanced, with female workers securing 73% of all new positions created last month. "With employment increasing by 89,000 people and the number of unemployed increasing by 6,000 people, the unemployment rate remained steady at 4.1 per cent for April," said Sean Crick, ABS head of labour statistics.
