The S&P/ASX 200 closed 94.2 points lower, down 1.23%.
At 7,569.9, the S&P/ASX 200 (XJO) closed 94.2 points below its peak for the session and only 0.18% above its low. Advancers trailed decliners in the more general S&P/ASX 300 (XKO) by a pitiful 34 to 243.
Today, all eleven of the main ASX sectors experienced a down day (yes, once more!). Utilities (XUJ) and Financials (XFJ) were the least bad sectors, falling 0.6% apiece. Let's not sugarcoat this, this is still bad. [Read more - Carl Capolingua ]

Federal Government's $925 Million Commitment to Combat Violence Against Women
The federal government promised to take action against violence against women, including funding to help women escape violence and online measures like an age verification trial to block children from accessing pornography.
State and federal leaders met virtually this morning, as the crisis has seen at least 28 women killed in acts of gendered violence this year.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that today is about who we are as a nation and as a society. We know that governments need to act, but we also know that this is an issue for the whole of society, not just for governments. [ Read more]

The national Home Value Index (HVI) increased by 0.6% in April, which is in line with the pace of growth seen in February and March. Cancer Council ACT commits $150k to groundbreaking Canberra-based cancer research
Cancer Council ACT is pleased to announce its commitment to advancing local cancer research by allocating $150,000 to fund two innovative projects awarded through its annual Research Grant program.
On Monday 22 April, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia and Mrs Linda Hurley, Patron of Cancer Council ACT hosted a special Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea event at Government House for Cancer Council volunteers and fundraisers, where Canberra-based researchers Dr. Rachel Woodhouse and Dr. Teresa Bonello from the Australian National University were revealed as this year’s recipients.
Dr. Woodhouse, a postdoctoral fellow at the Cancer Immunology and Epigenetics Laboratory, John Curtin School of Medical Research, ANU, was awarded the grant for her project titled Developing novel therapies for EZH2 driven B-cell lymphoma. Dr. Woodhouse’s project studies how changes in gene expression patterns within cancer cells drive tumour development and progression, with the goal of developing new therapies for cancers that resist traditional treatments.
Dr Woodhouse expressed that the funding will be essential to progressing her research.
